Rev. Ben Mullen, Pastor
Remember the kid who stuck out his tongue to the icy flagpole, just to see what would happen?  Yeah, he got stuck!
Remember the day God opened your eyes to the amazing Good News that when Jesus died on the cross, He took
your sins in His body (as I Peter 2:24 says), and made perfect payment for your sin against a holy God?  Well, you
got stuck!
In I Corinthians 6:17, Paul writes,
“But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him”.  When we
simply receive by faith what Jesus did on the cross in dying for our sins, His Holy Spirit comes to live in our human
spirit (according to Ephesians 1:13-14, and Romans 8:9-11), and His life becomes our life.
We get stuck to Jesus!  Sound too good to be true?
Listen to these words from Paul in Romans 6:4-5,
4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from
the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the
likeness of His resurrection.
By faith in Jesus Christ, He shares His resurrection life with us, His life becomes our life, we walk in new life with Him.
At First Baptist Hebron, we are making the amazing and joyful discovery that God desires not to just get us out of hell
and into heaven (which is certainly a good thing), but He desires to get His life out of heaven and into us.
We are making the joyful discovery that the Christian life is not about our ability, but as Paul write in Ephesians 3:20-
21, it is about the God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think.
Are you stuck to the hopelessness of “Performance Based Christianity”?  Stuck to the nagging guilt that you can
never read enough chapters, pray enough prayers, memorize enough verses, attend enough meetings to please
God?
God never thought you could, or asked that you would.  That’s why He sent His Son Jesus Christ to become the
perfect payment for our sins on the cross, and the source of our life through His resurrection.
Romans 5:17 says, “…
much more, those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of
righteousness, will reign in life, through the One, Jesus Christ”.
It’s all in Christ!  It’s through the One, Jesus
Christ.
Our freedom from sin is in Christ’s death, and our power for life is in His resurrection.  It’s all in Him … His life is our
life!
So if you’re tired of being stuck in “trying to live the Christian life”, come get stuck with us at First Baptist Hebron, in
learning how to let Christ live His life through us.
God bless you!
